She Matters to You
You may have participated in, followed, or even just heard of our #SheMatters campaign, a multi-year campaign for gender equity – to educate, equip and empower girls and women through raising funds and awareness. We addressed social injustices like gender bias in education, equal opportunity for skills and job training, as well as enhanced learning and leadership opportunities to empower women leaders in the last three years.
In 2014, with the launch of the campaign, we raised $167,772.37. In 2015 we raised $112,573.23, and with She Matters 3 in 2016, you helped us raise $48,682.21 and counting! That’s almost 300 Canadian Baptist churches involved in advocating on behalf of women and girls around the world.
One of the projects supported by She Matters 3 is for training and education for women in ministry. Noura is a student at Arab Baptist Theological School (ABTS) through the generous support of CBM. Because the conflict grew strong in Homs, Syria, Noura and her family had to move to a nearby village. Though it is not completely safe there, they are living in peace and they lack nothing, though there is no access to theological education where she lives. That is why she came to Lebanon to study at ABTS.
“Studying here at ABTS means a lot to me. The academic knowledge and skills I am acquiring are very valuable. This module is about communication; we are also taking a course on public speaking, and it is very interesting. I used to be more of a passive person, but I am learning to actively engage with others. I am also learning to deal with people from different cultures.”
After Noura finishes her training here, she hopes to serve with her husband through planting churches in Egypt and Syria and reaching out to women and children outside church walls.
“The wife of my church’s pastor, Samar, has been my inspiration because of her dedication and love for Christ. She is always encouraging others and walks in humility. Although she is the pastor’s wife, and she is basically organizing everything that goes on in church, she is not ashamed of carrying out small services such as cooking and cleaning the church. Now, I am also inspired by my husband Wael who has exhorted me get out of my comfort zone and to reach out to others.”
The impact that your support makes is unprecedented. It’s real, and it is making a difference in the life of many.

The people of South Sudan need your help today. According to CBC News, famine has been officially declared in two areas of South Sudan, as “the result of prolonged civil war and an entrenched economic crisis that has devastated the war-torn East African nation. […] More than 100,000 people in two counties of Unity state are experiencing famine and there are fears that the famine will spread as an additional one million South Sudanese are on the brink of starvation.” CBM is urgently working to raise relief support for our response to the famine in South Sudan.
With the passing of Ash Wednesday into the Lenten season, we are pleased to share reflections and devotions written by Gordon W. King every week until Easter. We hope that you will join us as we reflect upon the words of Jesus, as we collectively prepare our hearts for the celebration of Easter in this period of dwelling in the presence of God, and understanding the ultimate sacrifice that was made on our behalf, and the power of grace, forgiveness and redemption.
